Buena Park is adjacent to Anaheim and less than 20 miles from Santa Ana. This thrilling city offers visitors a refreshingly easy and fun California experience. Located in the second most populated county within the state and well known for its tourism and hotels Buena Park is home to Knott's Berry Farm. In addition, it is home to great weather and rightfully dubbed, the "Center of the Southland".
Buena Park started its beginnings as part of a rancho called Rancho Los Coyotes. Rancho Los Coyotes was part of a 48,806-acre Mexican land grant in 1834 that had been divided from Rancho Los Nieto to the heirs of Manuel Nieto. Nieto, a soldier of the Presidio of San Diego, was granted the land by the King of Spain in 1783. The land was eventually transferred in 1822 to Mexican rule and then ceded, after the Mexican-American War, to the U.S. The history of the land is still alive today at the present day Los Coyotes Country Club, a golf course located at the old Rancho Los Coyotes adobe headquarters.
Beyond its history, one of the most well known attractions in Buena Park is Knott's Berry Farm. This amusement park started by Walter Knott in the early 1900s was, at first, a way to entertain the crowd who came to the family restaurant for some of their famous fried chicken. To make their time there worthwhile, Walter Knott built a ghost town with relocated buildings from Old West towns. Knott's Berry continued to thrive, although Disneyland opened just eight miles away in 1955. As its fame and news of fun times continued to spread, so did the amount of attractions. Finally in 1968, the family fenced in the farm, started to charge admission and the farm became an official amusement park. Today, the park still retains much of its Old West feel along with many contemporary thrill rides such as Perilous Plunge and Shoot-the-Chutes. In addition to the many roller coasters, there are six themed areas within the park including Ghost Town, Indian Trails and Camp Snoopy.
Located across the street from Knott's Berry Farm is Knott's Soak City, a water park the entire family can enjoy. Attractions include a circuit lazy river where you can relax and enjoy the California sun and Malibu Run, four great adventure slides that will be sure to add a thrill to your day. If you want to catch some waves you can head over to Tidal Wave Bay, where there is a 700,000 plus-gallon wave pool. One of the best things about Soak City is that it has a very good aquatic safety record so you can have fun without the stress.
If you are looking for a more relaxed form of play outside of the amusement parks, you and the whole family can visit the Ralph B. Clark Regional Park or Los Coyotes Country Club. The Ralph B. Clark Regional Park is a great attraction in the city. Tucked at the base of the Coyote Hills, this park is one of the most prominent parks within the county. It offers 105 acres of expansive open grass area in addition to gently rolling hills and shear sandstone cliffs. There are a wealth of things to do in the park including barbecuing, bicycling, fishing, laying out picnics, hiking, playing horseshoes and so many other great activities. Meanwhile, Los Coyotes Country Club is a wonderful place for adults who are interested in personal play. The country club offers three unique nine-hole layouts with undulating fairways, numerous lakes and well-protected and preserved greens. The club is the same one used for the Los Coyotes LPGA Classic tournament.
Both options are a great way to spend your day in the city. For more information on activities in the area, ask an attendant at one of the local hotels Buena Park offers. It is a city that's full of things to do and they can help you find what you like.
For history buffs, the city offers a history park to explore. The park located on the popular Beach Blvd, is home to several of the city's well-preserved historical buildings. These buildings include the Whitaker-Jayne House, the Bacon House and the Tice House. Each building gives visitors great insight into the economic and social growth of the town.
With its good time, lots of activities and wonderful accommodating hotels Buena Park is definitely a city that combines fun and relaxation effortlessly. Whatever your reason for visiting, you will find the city more than capable of providing you with a memorable time.
